Make sure the Dock has a power supply connected to it and is turned on. You will expect to see a blue light on at the front:

unitech_02

Once the Handheld Dock is successfully connected and powered on we will then need to place the Handheld in the Dock.

When the Handheld is placed in the Dock correctly you will expect to see a Red light appear on the 3rd of the 3 indicator lights on the top of the face of the Handheld. When it is fully charged, you will expect to see this light turn green.

Power on the Handheld by holding in the POWER button (6) or by pressing the power button once to turn on the screen:

Now that the Handheld is docked and powered on, it will make a USB connection to the PC. You may see a few dialogs appear and disappear on the Handheld Screen while it attempts to connect.

If this is the first time connecting it, Windows may also go through the process of installing the Device Driver. Depending on your Windows settings this may take a few minutes or may even fail.

Once a USB connection has been made you will hear the handheld make a sound like three echoing tones. If it is not open already, Windows Mobile Device Center should open when the Handheld is connected.

unitech_05

In the bottom left hand corner you should see the following "Connected" message, if not then the Handheld is not connected correctly.

unitech_06

If you do not see this "Connected" message then there is likely to be an issue with the connection. You can try the following: + Try disconnecting the USB cable from the Handheld Dock and reconnect it. + Try connecting the USB cable from the Handheld Dock to a different port on the PC. + Remove the Handheld from the Dock and dock it again. + Restart the PC the Handheld Dock is connected to. + Remove the battery and reinsert it + At the back of the handheld you will find two clips, one on the left and one on the right, that hold the battery case in place. Flip these clips outwards and you can then pull off the case to expose the battery. + To remove the battery, pull firmly on the long tab sticking out from the battery until it pops out. + Then simply reinsert the battery, put the cover back into place and flip the clips back inwards. + Try a soft reset + In order to perform a Soft Reset, first make sure the Handheld is powered on. Then take the Handheld Stylus, or a pen or something with a small tip, and press the Soft Reset button. It is very shallow and should be quite easy to press. This will then refresh the Handheld. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and then the desktop of the Handheld will appear. Shortly after that, the TouchStore Handheld software should automatically open up. + Try a hard reset + In order to perform a Hard Reset, which fully reboots the Handheld and can result in the need to Restore the Backup on the Handheld, you will need something small and thin like a paperclip. Press it into the hole until you feel a button click and then remove the paperclip. One of the indicator lights on the top of the Handheld will flash briefly when you press the reset button and the Handheld will begin the process of rebooting.

If you do not see a name or text above this "Connected" message then it is likely that you do not have a Partnership setup. A Partnership MUST be set up otherwise you will not be able to transfer files to and from the Handheld.

In order to set up a Partnership you will need to click on "Set up your device"

unitech_07

This will then bring up the "Set Up Windows Mobile Partnership" screen. Make sure that all options are unticked and click "Next"

unitech_08

On the next screen you will be asked to name the device and choose to create a desktop shortcut for Windows Mobile Device Center along with how files should be synchronised with the Handheld.

Give the device a suitable name.

Then ensure to choose "Merge the existing items…"

unitech_09

Once successfully set up you will be returned to the main screen of Windows Mobile Device Center and you will see the following information in the bottom left hand corner:

unitech_10

You will expect to see this information everytime you connect the Handheld now that the Partnership is set up.
